Authentication error: general causes and safe next steps

Reviewed and updated: 2026-07-10

An authentication error can describe several different conditions. It may be caused by session state, a verification mismatch, a policy restriction, or an account-specific problem.

Safety note: This guide is informational only. It does not host a sign-in form, collect credentials, or provide account recovery. Use only the official service address supplied by your organization.

Eliminate stale session state

Close all related tabs and retry from a clean private window. This removes many local cookie conflicts.

Verify date and time settings

Secure authentication may rely on accurate device time. Enable automatic time synchronization where allowed.

Handle verification prompts carefully

Only respond to prompts inside the verified official service. Never share a security code with an unsolicited caller or message sender.

Review VPN or proxy behavior

Network changes can interrupt a secure authentication sequence. Follow company policy before disabling or changing any managed connection.

Use authorized support

Locked access, credential changes, and entitlement issues require official support or an authorized administrator.
